Holiday Destination Ideas: Pueblo Inglés, Spain and Italy

This is the third of my top 3 holiday destination ideas, as a result of visiting the Destinations Holiday and Travel Show in London earlier on this month.

Destinations is the UK’s largest consumer travel show. It’s a great place to get ideas or even book your next trip and I told YTP Email Club members that I would share some of the travel ideas that had inspired me at the show.

The top 2 holiday destination ideas were Belize and the Maldives. The third is the interesting concept of “Pueblo Inglés“.

First some questions:

If you answer “Yes” to the above, then Pueblo Inglés may be just right for you.

Pueblo Inglés, literally means “English Village”. The Pueblo Inglés - More Than English organisation bring English speakers from around the world to create English speaking villages in the Spanish and Italian countryside. The aim is to provide Spanish/Italian business people with an opportunity to have intensive exposure to raw English and to authentic English conversation.

We all know that, while the class room can teach language theory, it is putting the theory into practice that really makes a difference.

I was really taken by the idea of creating an environment where non-English speakers could be exposed to real (as opposed to text book) English in relaxing countryside. The benefits to the Spanish/Italian business people are obvious, but the personal and cultural experience for the volunteer is equally rewarding.

As an English speaking volunteer, Pueblo Inglés pay for your accommodation and meals during your time at the village. Your costs will be the flights, your accommodation before and after the program and any ancillary expenditure.

Launched in Spain in 2001, Pueblo Inglés now have villages in Italy as well as Spain. They have also introduced a Teen programme for 13-18 years olds.
